Senior Adam McAlpine was named as one of two University of Texas at Tyler’s recipients of the American Conference Scholar-Athlete Award by the conference on Tuesday.

McAlpine, a graduate student in marketing from Kingwood, finished his undergraduate work with a 3.82 GPA and currently has a perfect 4.0 GPA through two semesters of graduate school. He was a member of the 2008 ASC Champion men’s soccer team.

McAlpine is a three-time Academic All-ASC honoree and has been named to the ASC Men’s Soccer Distinguished Scholar-Athlete team twice. In 2008, McAlpine was a first team ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District men’s soccer selection. He is a two-time All-ASC selection, making the second team in 2007 and the first team in 2008.

McAlpine has played in integral role in three ASC regular season championship teams at UT Tyler and in his final year of eligibility, while attending graduate school, helped lead the Patriots to their first ASC Championship and NCAA appearance. He is also a former president of the UT Tyler Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was named 2008-2009 UT Tyler Male Student-Athlete of the Year.

The ASC Scholar-Athlete Award is presented to one male and one female member of the graduating class who has compiled the most outstanding record in academics, athletics and leadership over their collegiate career. The award is presented annually by the Faculty Athletics Representative at each conference member institution.
