Kingwood Officially Cleaner Thanks To Kleenwood Day
The Kingwood Chamber of Commerce's 6th Annual Travis McCormick Kleenwood Day was huge success thanks to volunteers of all ages helping to clean up where others have messed up.
Residents and businesses of Kingwood can appreciate a cleaner community after Kleenwood Day on Saturday January 24th. It was considered the most successful Kleenwood Day yet according to Kingwood Chamber of Commerce President Sparky Nolan.
The day started with a red vested leader meeting at 7am at Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Town Center. They were given instructions and supplies to bring to their areas of responsibility. Kleenwood Chairman Rick Alspaugh also awarded a trophy to Cameron Stanley for the furthest traveled participant of the day.
At 9am the community turned out to tackle trash, and that they did. Individuals, schools, organizations and business groups could be seen all over Kingwood working together to accomplish one simple goal, to pick up where others have messed up. Many using bags from the event's sponsor Regent Care Center of Kingwood.
The day concluded with an after party at Town Center including food and entertainment. The band Crushed Velvet took the main stage to entertain and thank participants. Another highlight was the annual "Wierdest Trash from the Woods" award. It could only be described as you had to be there to see it.
If you did not participate in Kleenwood Day this year, please be sure to thank those who did. Also, everyday can be Kleenwood Day just by picking up trash and debris you see. You can also mark your calendar for next year as Kleenwood Day is always the Saturday before Super Bowl weekend.
