The "Sky is the Limit" was the theme for the "Sign the Steel” presentation and celebration held on January 21, 2010. Dignitaries, community leaders, staff and friends came out to learn more about the additional two floor expansion project.

Coming off the heels of a 2007 expansion, which added 68,000 sq ft to the hospital, Kingwood Medical Center’s 2010 54,000 sq ft expansion includes two additional floors, 56 new, private beds with telemetry capabilities, the ability to serve 4,000 additional patients annually as well as the renovation and expansion of the Laboratory and Radiology departments. The facility’s additions will also enable the hospital to hire approximately 225 new employees.

Special presentations were mady by Kingwood Medical Center CEO, Melinda Stephenson; HCA Gulf Coast Division President, Maura Walsh; Hospital Board of Trustees Chairman, Nancy Shortsleeve; and Hospital Chief of Staff, Edward Baptista, M.D.

A City Proclamation was made by Houston City Council Member – District E, Mike Sullivan who noted this was the very first proclamation signed by the city's new Mayor Annise Parker.

Usually reserved for project teams and construction crews, “Signing the Steel” offers a way for those working on a project to commemorate its completion. However, Kingwood Medical Center’s team believes a construction project involves more than just its builders. Many people helped make the hospital’s 2010 expansion possible, and “Signing the Steel” was a way for them to leave their mark on the future of Kingwood.
