Dan Huberty, Republican candidate for Texas State Representative, District 127, the seat being vacated by longtime Representative Joe Crabb, filed recently to be on the ballot for the Republican Primary which will be held March 2, 2010.

A candidate’s application for a place on the ballot must be accompanied by a filing fee or a petition signed by qualified voters in the district.  Huberty filed by petition with more than 750 signatures.

“Although most candidates pay the filing fee, I wanted to take the time to collect the support of community members, which allowed me to canvas the District and learn what is important to them. It became clear to me that my platform of fiscal responsibility, public education improvement, tax reductions and the passage of a real Voter ID law are just as important to the community as they are to me.

“I know it is easier to simply write a check, but filing by petition saved our campaign those funds which we can now use to broadcast our message of fiscal conservatism; a message I will carry with me to Austin.

“I didn’t just wake up one morning and decide to run for office.  I was asked repeatedly by leaders, friends and neighbors in our area to run because of my track record of work and service to the community. We gathered the signatures in less than 45 days and still managed to file on the first day.

“I have demonstrated my ability to run for and be elected to public office. I am honored to have the support of so many voters at this point in our campaign. We gathered over 750 signatures of qualified voters in the District who want me to run, and want to see my name on the ballot.

“I would like to thank all those who signed the petition, the terrific volunteers and my team, especially my wife Janet, who made this all possible,” Huberty concluded.
