Guests “strolled down the garden path” at the enchanting Village Learning & Achievement Center “Moonlight Garden Ball” Fifth Annual Charity Gala held November 7 at the Crowne Plaza Houston North Greenspoint.

“We highlighted The Village Gardens at our gala and also honored Kathie Gentry, a parent volunteer, for her dedication to all of the families in our community over the past 18 years,” noted Village Learning & Achievement Center founder Kim Brusatori.  “Because of Kathie’s spirit and determination the lives of children and adults with disabilities in our community have been greatly enhanced,” remarked Brusatori.

One of the many highlights of the evening was when Villager Honoree, Jason, spoke about how much he enjoys tending to The Village Gardens where he resides.  Jason’s responsibilities include watering the large organic garden recently created on the grounds of Village at Stoney Glen.  Because of the extensive services Village Learning & Achievement Center provides, he leads a fulfilling life, complete with transportation and job support when he works at EXM Fitness Studio twice a week, activities at the Center, Special Olympics basketball and swimming practices and competitions, and watching college and professional baseball and football games on television with his friends.

“The Board of Directors of Village Learning & Achievement Center, our Staff, Villagers, and their families gratefully acknowledge the generous sponsors, donors, and dedicated volunteers who contributed to the success of our gala,” noted Brusatori.  “With on-going support from our kindhearted community we are able to continue to provide quality programs and vital services to children and adults with disabilities who live in our area,” added Brusatori.

“We appreciate the many individuals and businesses who donated auction and raffle items for this year’s gala,” commented board member and event chair Marie Halvatzis.  “Also, we deeply appreciate the support of our enormously generous sponsors,” added Halvatzis.  Sponsors were Joe & Cathy Cleary, Administaff, Inc., The MINT National Bank, Woody & Susan Bulick, Continental Airlines, Lone Star College - Kingwood, Reed Foundation, Occupational Therapy Services for Children, The Tribune Newspapers, John & Laurie Benson, Leonard & Kim Brusatori, Golder Associates, Dennis & Jeanie Keel, Kingwood Medical Center, Ken & Donna Lawrence, Northern Trust, Joiner Partnership, Steve & Lisa Prusak, Main Street Bank, Gary & Lisa Sostack, John & Leah Stone, Wayne & Ruby Wallinger, David & Clare Zeagler, Norm & Jan Phillips, and CDR International Ladies Club.

Gala proceeds will support the programs and facilities of Village Learning & Achievement Center, a 501(c) 3 non-profit charitable organization devoted to helping individuals with disabilities enjoy enriched lives in the Kingwood/Humble/Atascocita communities by providing training, employment support, and residential programs.  For additional information about how Village Learning & Achievement Center creates inclusive opportunities for people with disabilities allowing them to live in their own communities, close to their families and friends, visit www.villagelac.org.
