Lt. Governor David Dewhurst will be the guest speaker at the November 18th meeting of Kingwood Area Republican Women. The group is very proud and excited to have Dewhurst at their last meeting of 2009 which will be a Patriotic program to “Salute Our Heroes”.

On the 65th anniversary of D-Day, the Governor and his brother went to Normandy (Utah Beach) to learn more about the personal journey of their father, Lt. Col. David Dewhurst.  The trip was documented on television with narration by Tom Brokaw.

Members are encouraged to invite a soldier and/or veteran as their guest to this special event in order that they may be recognized for their courageous service to our Nation.

Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst is a native Texan, proud veteran, successful businessman and rancher.  Dewhurst began his business career in the mid-1970s after serving as an officer in the U.S. Air Force, the Central Intelligence Agency and the U.S. State Department.  As President of the Senate, he has presided over three Regular Sessions and seven Special Sessions, working to pass legislation to create new jobs and economic opportunity, improve schools and protect public safety.

Lt. Governor Dewhurst has worked to balance three budgets, cut property taxes, and turn a $10 billion deficit into a multi-billion dollar budget surplus.  Since he was elected, Texas has added more than one-million new jobs and the state's economy has continued to outpace the nation's economy.

Because of the large number of guests expected, those planning to enjoy a plated, served lunch will need to send their check for $20, payable to KARW, no later than Friday, November 13; please write names of guests on your check.  Those planning to attend and not eat must RSVP by noon Monday, November 16, to Betty Newton, 281-360-1125, betnewt@suddenlink.net

KARW will be sending special items to a hero who is serving in Afghanistan.  Gy Sgt. McMullen has a wife and three children; he served in Iraq previously with the son of Alice Rekeweg.  Please bring a contribution of the following items for this brave soldier:

- Hickory Farms Sausage
- Small packaged snacks: nuts, gum, Doritos, peanut butter cookies, Oreos, anything fun
- Beef Jerky
- Instant Coffee packs, sugar packs, cream packs
- Blank Christmas cards for them to send home to their families
- Money to buy hand warmers or additional food (checks payable to Alice Rekeweg)
