FOLKs Await The Opening Of The New Kingwood Library
The building construction has come a long way since the December 2008 groundbreaking. “The walls are up, floors are down, interior is taking shape,” says branch librarian Christi Whittington.
“The building is on target to be completed by the end of this year. However, we won’t be able to get furniture, fixtures and books in place to open by Christmas. My fantasy is a Grand Opening of the new library as a Valentine's gift. We just have to keep our fingers crossed.”
Until the new library opens, The Friends Of the Library Kingwood (FOLK) will continue to offer books for sale in the library and library foyer. There will be a nice selection of books for the bookworms on your holiday shopping list. Books sold by FOLK range from 50 cents to $3 dollars for newer releases and coffee table books.
Because it is the holiday season, FOLK would like to remind everyone that they have the opportunity to make a lasting contribution in the tradition of community spirit and commitment. Define an area, honor an individual or designate a gift and you will enhance the surroundings of the new Kingwood Branch Library in two of several ways:
DONOR BOOKPLATE RECOGNITION: Make a lasting memory or honor someone such as a friend, family member or special event. Reference books are $50.00 each while Adult or children's books are $25.00.
ENGRAVED PAVERS: Serving as permanent commemorative icons, pavers in your name or for someone else will enhance the main walkway, front entrance or garden area. Engraved pavers sell for $150.00 each.
For details regarding the purchase of a BOOKPLATE, ENGRAVED PAVERS or other LEVELS of contributions call Connie Jaeger at 281-360-5261, or Carolyn Humphrey at 281-360-5844.
Donated books, magazines, and media materials are accepted year round during the business hours of the library. If you are interested in volunteering in the Friends’ Bookstore for all FOLKS, or becoming a ‘friend’ of the library, go to FOLK’s website: www.kingwoodfolk.org. Friend memberships start at $20.00 yearly and will earn you a 10% discount each time you visit FOLK's Bookstore for all FOLKS at the new library.
