Planning is already underway for this school year’s Project Graduation for Kingwood High School. The theme for this year is “A Space Odyssey/Reach for the Stars!”

Kingwood Project Graduation started in 1989 as nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a safe and drug free environment for an all night graduation party.  This event allows our seniors to celebrate together in an overnight lock-in in an effort to avoid potential tragedies associated with other forms of celebration.  The Project Graduation Committee is composed of senior parents who volunteer their time and money to plan, organize, and design a memorable event each year.  Funding for this event comes from generous donations of senior parents, business and community contributions, and raffle ticket sales.

Every individual and business is recognized for their contributions in a local community newspaper in the spring.

This memorable night includes activities such as a Casino, Bingo, Boardwalk Games, Inflatable Games, Karaoke, Mini Golf, Sumo Wrestling, Video Games, and Dancing.  The evening is filled with fun, food and prizes.

At the end of the evening prizes are drawn and include such things as laptop computers, Ipods, Iphones, GPS, LCD screens and some other cool gifts. Every student will go home with a small prize or gift certificate.

If that is not enough to persuade grads to come, the greatest reward is the chance to win the grand prize, a new car or $18,000 voucher toward college tuition. Every student that attends is eligible for provided he or she stays all night.

This year directors are Julie Hogan and Susana Denegre-Vaught.  More than 600 senior parents will be needed to volunteer to set-up and handle this year event.  Senior parents are encouraged to participate.  Please mark your calendar for Saturday May 29, 2010 from 11:00 p.m. to 6 a.m. next morning.

Kingwood Project Graduation has received its 501(c)(3) designation and appropriate documentation can be provided upon request.  For more information about Project Graduation or to learn how you could make a contribution please visit the web site at:  www.humbleisd.net/khs2010pg or email Julie Hogan at hogansixpack@yahoo.com  or Susana Denegre-Vaught at sdenegrevaught@yahoo.com.
