HCA Gulf Coast Division President, Maura Walsh, recently announced the appointment of Melinda Stephenson as CEO of Kingwood Medical Center. Stephenson served as CEO of HCA Mainland Medical Center since 2005 and will succeed Gay Nord as CEO of Kingwood Medical Center in June.

“Melinda’s extensive background in healthcare management along with her exceptional ability to build strong staff, physician and community relationships will be a valuable asset to Kingwood Medical Center,” said Walsh. “Under her leadership, the hospital will continue to experience growth and provide the highest quality healthcare the community has come to expect.”

During her tenure at Mainland Medical Center, the hospital was honored with several awards indicative of the quality care it provided. In 2007, the hospital was recognized with the Texas Medical Foundation Quality Award; in the following year, it received the Healthgrades Gastrointestinal Service Award and was honored with the Pulmonary Excellence Award in 2009. Under her leadership, the hospital grew its Cardiovascular Program to include a STEMI and elective Interventional Program, developed a Women’s Clinic and Breast Center and opened the newest addition: a Sleep Studies Center.

Stephenson holds an MBA from the University of Houston at Clear Lake and a BSN from the University of Texas. Proactively involved in the Texas City Community, Stephenson served on the Board of Directors of the Texas City Rotary Club, Texas City Independent School District Foundation for the Future and D’Feet Breast Cancer Initiative. Additionally, she was recently named Chairman Elect 2010 of the Texas City, La Marque Chamber of Commerce.
